CAFOD is the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development. It is the official overseas development and relief agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. CAFOD has been fighting poverty in developing countries since 1962. CAFOD believes that all human beings have a right to dignity and respect, and that the world's resources are a gift to be shared equally by all men and women, whatever their race, nationality or religion. Pax Christi - meaning Peace of Christ, is a gospel-based lay-inspired, peacemaking movement. Founded in the Catholic Church, its membership is open to individuals, groups and organisations of all faiths who are in sympathy with its aims and values.
The Cardinal Winning Pro-Life Initiative
On 9 March 1997, the late Cardinal Thomas Joseph Winning launched a major practical initiative to help women facing a crisis pregnancy. They recently celebrated their tenth birthday, and in those ten years they have assisted countless women and their families, practically, financially, emotionally and spiritually.
The Sisters of the Gospel of Life were founded in 2000 as a fruit of the Initiative. Natural Family Planning (NFP) gives couples a reliable, natural, moral method of regulating the births of their children within marriage, should they so wish.
