Holy Father's visit to England
Saturday, September 18, 2010
Visit of Pope Benedict XVI to England: the organisers of the papal visit have arranged for an opportunity for the Catholic youth of the country to meet the Pope on Saturday 18th September in central London. Pope Benedict will speak to the youth briefly, and they will have a good location in the evening vigil of prayer and praise. Our diocese has been given 55 places, and parishes have been asked to nominate 1 young person per parish to go to the event – first come first served. The guidance we have been given is that the young person should be able to return to the parish and tell parishioners what they had experienced. The second is more practical – due to the length of the day and the crowds they will be a part of, they will need to be people of some stamina – the day begins at 8am in London and ends at 930pm. For security reasons, each young person will need either a valid passport or a UK driving licence photocard. Candidates under 18 will need parental consent. If any young parishioner aged 16-20 is interested in taking this opportunity to see and hear the Pope please let me know a.s.a.p. – if the parish is going to send someone, we have to send in the nomination papers by 15th June. It would be wonderful if our 2 parishes could be represented in London by our young faithful.
• Prayer Card: the bishops’ conference have prepared a prayer card that they ask us all to use, each day if possible, that the Holy Father’s visit may be a time of strengthening in faith. Do take a copy from the back of the Church

Marriage Celebration, Plymouth Cathedral
Saturday, November 20, 2010
The big marriage celebration 2010: the bishop has designated 12 months to the celebration of the sacrament of Marriage in the diocese. From August 2010 to July 2011 there will be a number of events in the diocese to highlight the importance of this great sacrament of love. These events follow the lead given in other dioceses of our country over the last couple of years. The first event takes place on 20th November 2010 – by personal invitation, couples celebrating their 10th, 25th, 30th, 40th, 50th or 60th+ wedding anniversaries, or indeed any significant anniversary during 2010, will gather in Plymouth cathedral at 11am on Saturday, 20th November 2010 to give thanks, renew their vows and pray for their families and all marriages. If you are married and would like to be invited, or to nominate a couple, please let me know. See poster on the notice board.
